My child complains about "itchy" life jackets—how is this one different? +
The Ronix Top Grom is lined with Neck and Armhole Fleece. This covers the rough edges where standard vests usually chafe against a child's skin. It also features Neoprene Webbing Covers, so the scratchy nylon straps are completely tucked away under soft fabric, preventing that "vest-burn" around the ribs.
Is this vest "Level 50" or actually Coast Guard Approved for boat use? +
This is a 100% Coast Guard Approved (CGA) life jacket, certified in both the U.S. and Canada. It meets all legal requirements for use on a boat, unlike "competition" or "swim aid" vests. It is designed to provide maximum buoyancy and will reliably keep your child's head above water.
How do I know if this Youth vest is too big for my child? +
Use the "Lift Test." Put the Ronix Top Grom on your child and zip it tight. Grab the shoulders of the vest and pull upward. If the vest slides up and hits their ears or chin, it is too big. The vest should be snug enough that the child's body lifts with the vest rather than the vest sliding up the torso.
Can my child use this for learning to wakeboard? +
Absolutely. The Top Grom features Skived Foam (tapered edges), which makes the vest less "boxy" than traditional PFDs. This allows kids to move their arms freely, making it much easier for them to hold a wakeboard handle and find their balance without a bulky jacket getting in the way of their reach.
Why doesn't this Youth vest have a crotch strap? +
Per Coast Guard standards, only Infant and Child (up to 50 lbs) vests require a crotch strap. The Youth Top Grom (50-90 lbs) is designed for older kids who have the torso length to keep the vest in place with just the front zipper and buckles. If the vest fits properly, a crotch strap is no longer necessary for safety.
