Why You’ll Love the Phase 5 Hammerhead V3 Wakesurf Board 2026

The Hammerhead is the undisputed king of riding backwards. If you are tired of your nose diving the second you land a 180, this board is the solution. Its square nose and tail make it feel identical whether you're riding regular or revert. It’s fast, stable, and designed to keep you locked into the wave no matter which way you're facing.

Ideal vs. Wrong Riders

Phase 5 Hammerhead V3 Wakesurf Board 2026

The Ideal Rider

Technical skim riders who want to master revert riding and high-speed spins, or bigger guys who need a "shreddable" board that doesn't sacrifice technical ability.

The Wrong Rider

Beginners who need a floaty, surf-style board to learn the basics, or riders who want a "locked-in" rail-to-rail carving feel.

The Wakesports Crew Review

We took the 2026 Hammerhead V3 out to see if the "peanut" rail design actually lived up to the hype, and the tracking is noticeably better than a standard straight-edge skimmer. What we loved most is the absolute confidence you have when riding switch. On most boards, switch riding feels like you're walking on eggshells, but the Hammerhead's square nose gives you so much surface area that it stays stable and fast even when you're "backwards." One of our bigger test riders hopped on the new 58" model and was stoked—he finally found a skim-style board that didn't feel like it was sinking under his weight but still let him whip 360s with ease. The Hybrid Carbon construction is stiff and snappy, providing that instant "pop" you need to clear the wake for shuv-its.

FAQ'S: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Phase 5 Hammerhead vs Phase 5 Key - Which should I choose? +
The Key wakesurf board is a symmetrical pro-style skimmer designed for pure technical trickery. The Hammerhead is built with a wider square nose and tail, making it much more stable for riding revert and offering more "push" for riders who want a bit more help staying in the wave.
Why does the Hammerhead have a square nose and tail? +
Traditional tapered noses tend to dive or lose speed when you ride the board backwards (revert). The square design ensures the board has the same stability and speed in both directions, which is essential for landing 180s and 360s.
What is the benefit of the Hammerhead's "Peanut" side rail design? +
The peanut shape pulls the mid-section of the board in slightly, which creates two points of contact on the wave. This helps the board track straighter toward the boat and prevents it from feeling "squirrelly" at high speeds.
Is the 58" Hammerhead good for big riders who want to skim? +
Yes; the new 58" model is a game-changer for riders over 250 lbs. It provides the surface area needed to float a larger frame while keeping the thin, technical rails of a skim board for spins and tricks.
Can I swap the 1" fin for something bigger? +
Absolutely. The Hammerhead comes with a 1" skim fin for a loose, "skatey" feel. If you are struggling with stability or tracking, swapping to a 2" fin will make the board feel more "locked-in" and easier to control during hard carves.
