Why You’ll Love the Phase 5 Trident V3 Wakesurf Board 2026

The Trident is the ultimate "wave magnet" for larger riders. It features a massive amount of surface area that generates instant speed, making it nearly impossible to fall out of the pocket. If you want a board that carries your weight effortlessly but still gives you that thin, responsive skim-style edge, this is your board.

Ideal vs. Wrong Riders

Phase 5 Trident V3 Wakesurf Board 2026

The Ideal Rider

Bigger surfers (225+ lbs) who want one board that can act as a stable surf-style carver and/or a loose technical skimmer depending on the fin setup.

The Wrong Rider

Lightweight surfers looking for a "flickable" board for shuv-its and airs—the Trident’s size makes those maneuvers a tall order, or someone looking for a traditional surf style board.

The Wakesports Crew Review

When we took out the Trident, the first thing we noticed was just how much float it actually has—this board is a game-changer for anyone 250+ lbs who has struggled to stay in the pocket. It’s a very easy, intuitive ride. Running it as a thruster (tri-fin) makes it incredibly stable, which is perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to lean into a massive bottom turn. If you want to get a little rowdy, dropping the center fin and riding it as a twin-fin gives you a fun, loose surf-style feel for slashes. For the guys who want to skim, riding it as a single-fin leverages that sharp rail and massive surface area to make learning surface 360s surprisingly easy. Just a heads up: while it spins great, shuv-its are a bit of a workout on this board simply because of its size.

Product Overview

The 2026 Phase 5 Trident is the premier choice for riders who need extra surface area without sacrificing the technical feel of a skim-style board. Featuring a longboard-inspired outline, the Trident provides more "push" than almost any other board in its category, making it the go-to for larger surfers and boats with smaller wakes. For 2026, it features the high-performance Hybrid Carbon Innegra construction, offering an elite strength-to-weight ratio and a fast, stiff ride. The Trident comes equipped with a Tri-Fin setup using 2” Skim Fins, providing maximum control and tracking. The 3/4" thickness ensures a stable, buoyant platform that makes deep-water starts a breeze for any size rider. Whether you're a beginner looking for stability or a veteran cruiser who wants a versatile, high-speed session, the Trident delivers.

FAQ'S: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Phase 5 Trident vs Phase 5 Model X - Which is better for big riders? +
Both boards handle weight well, but the Trident is a dedicated skim-style hybrid with a longer outline and thinner rails. The Model X has a wider swallowtail and more of a "surf" feel. If you want a longer, stable board that you can still spin like a skimmer, the Trident is the better "big guy" option.
What is the best fin setup for a 250 lb beginner on the Trident? +
Start with all three fins (the Thruster setup). This provides the most stability and tracking, making it much easier for larger riders to get up and find their balance. Once you are comfortable carving, you can remove fins to experiment with different riding styles.
Can you learn 360s on a board as big as the Trident? +
Yes! In fact, the large surface area makes it more stable during the rotation. By riding it as a single-fin, you reduce the grip in the tail, allowing the board to break free easily for surface spins. It’s one of the best platforms for big guys to master their first 360.
How does the Hybrid Carbon Innegra construction help with "wave-save"? +
Larger riders need a board that doesn't flex and lose energy. The Carbon Innegra build is incredibly stiff, meaning every bit of "push" from the wave is converted into forward speed. This makes it much easier to stay in the pocket without having to pump constantly.
Is the Trident fast enough for a small boat wake? +
Absolutely. The Trident was specifically designed to maximize "plane-ability." Its flatter rocker and wide surface area allow it to stay on top of the water and maintain speed even on smaller, mellower wakes that would sink a traditional technical skimmer.
