Why You’ll Love the Phase 5 Hypsta V2 Wakesurf Board 2026

The Hypsta V2 is essentially a technical "cheat code." It has massive surface area that generates instant push, so you can stay in the wave with zero effort. The new V2 tail makes it much more agile than the original, meaning you get all that stability without the "clunky" feel. If you want to drop the rope and never look back, this is the board.

Ideal vs. Wrong Riders

Phase 5 Hypsta V2 Wakesurf Board 2026

The Ideal Rider

Bigger riders who struggle to stay in the pocket or anyone wanting a stable "pumping machine" to learn technical skim tricks without falling out of the wave.

The Wrong Rider

Technical wakesurfers who want an ultra-narrow, traditional pintail feel, or riders looking for the heavy, rail-buried carving of a high-volume surfboard.

The Wakesports Crew Review

When we threw the 2026 Phase 5 Hypsta V2 wakesurfer out for a test set, the "V2" tail was the star of the show. In the past, the Hypsta was great at staying in the wave but felt a little like a boat when you tried to whip a 360. Now, with the tail pulled in, it pivots much faster. We had one of our 215 lb riders on the 54", and he was amazed at how easily he could drift to the very back of the flats and "pump" his way right back to the pocket. It’s incredibly fast underfoot because of the CI-V Carbon build—there’s no "mushy" flex. It’s the kind of board that builds confidence because it’s so hard to lose the wave, letting you focus entirely on your feet and your rotations.

Product Overview

The 2026 Phase 5 Hypsta V2 has been completely revamped with a sleek new outline to maximize performance without losing its legendary stability. While the wide nose and mid-section maintain the high-volume that provides effortless push, Phase 5 pulled in the tail considerably for 2026 to give the rider more control and maneuverability. Built with premium CI-V Carbon Innegra, this board is fast, stiff, and lightweight, allowing for instant response. The Hypsta V2 is a "catch-all" performer that ensures everyone on the boat can stay in the pocket, yet it now packs enough technical "shred-ability" for advanced riders to session rotations and shuv-its. Equipped with a versatile Tri-Fin setup, it can be tuned for a locked-in feel or a loose, skatey ride, making it the most inclusive high-performance skim board in the Phase 5 lineup.

FAQ'S: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Phase 5 Hypsta vs Phase 5 Diamond - Which one is better for me? +
The Hypsta is wider and offers more "push," making it better for riders who struggle to stay in the wave or those on smaller boat wakes. The Diamond is narrower and more aggressive, designed for riders who prioritize high-speed carves and pro-level agility over pure stability.
Is the Hypsta V2 a good wakesurfer for big guys? +
Yes; this is one of the best technical skimmers for larger riders. The 54" model handles up to 225 lbs easily, and the wide surface area provides enough lift so that bigger surfers don't have to pump constantly to stay in the sweet spot.
How does the new "V2" tail change the way the Hypsta rides? +
By pulling the tail in, Phase 5 made the board much easier to pivot. While the original Hypsta was built for stability, the V2 tail allows for faster rotations during 360s and more responsive edge-to-edge transitions.
What fin setup should I use to learn 360s on the Hypsta? +
To make the board "spin" easier, use the Button Fin System to remove the two 1" fakie fins and ride it as a single center fin. This makes the tail feel "skatey" and allows the board to break free from the water with very little effort.
Does the Carbon Innegra construction make the board fragile? +
Actually, it’s the opposite. The Innegra fibers are incredibly tough and impact-resistant, while the Carbon provides the stiffness for speed. This build is designed to handle the daily abuse of boat life while maintaining pro-level performance.
