Why You’ll Love the Phase 5 Shrimp Kid's Wakesurf Board 2026

The Phase 5 Shrimp is the true "day one" board for the youngest groms in the boat. While the Scamp is for kids ready to progress, the Shrimp is designed specifically for the little ones (up to 100 lbs) who are just getting their sea legs. It’s short, ultra-stable, and designed to make that first pull behind the boat as non-intimidating as possible.

Ideal vs. Wrong Riders

Phase 5 Shrimp Kid's Wakesurf Board 2026

The Ideal Rider

The youngest groms (under 100 lbs) who are just starting out. It is the perfect "first board" to teach them how to stand up, find the pocket, and drop the rope for the first time.

The Wrong Rider

Kids over 100 lbs or those who have already mastered carving and are looking to start doing technical spins—they’ll want to look at the Phase 5 Scamp or Mindset.

The Wakesports Crew Review

We brought the 2026 Shrimp out with a 50 lb grom who was a little nervous about his first time wakesurfing, and it was the star of the show. The compact 40" size is so much easier for a small child to pull into their chest for a deep-water start. Once he was up, the board stayed incredibly stable. We noticed that because it’s a single 2” fin setup, it tracks very straight, which is exactly what a beginner needs to build confidence before they start trying to slide the tail around. It sits perfectly in the sweet spot of the wave and gives the little guys the "push" they need to drop the rope and feel the glide.

Product Overview

The Phase 5 Shrimp wakesurf board is the smallest board in the Phase 5 lineup, designed specifically for the smallest riders. It features a wide, stable outline that makes it incredibly easy for groms to get up and stay in the wave. Built with our durable Composilite™ construction and a Diamond Glass layup, the Shrimp can handle the rough-and-tumble life of being a kid's favorite toy. The thin skim-style core provides great rail sensitivity, while the single 2” Skim Fin ensures the board tracks predictably. If you are looking for the absolute best platform to introduce your youngest children to the sport of wakesurfing, the Phase 5 Shrimp wakesurfer is the definitive choice.

FAQ'S: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Phase 5 Shrimp vs Phase 5 Scamp - Which wakesurf board is best for my child? +
The Shrimp is smaller (40") and designed for absolute beginners under 100 lbs. The Scamp is larger (45") and has a tri-fin setup, making it better for kids who are starting to carve and want to progress into tricks. If they are very small and just starting, go Shrimp; if they are approaching 100 lbs and can already drop the rope, go Scamp.
Why does the Phase 5 Shrimp wakesurfer only have one fin while the Phase 5 Scamp has three? +
At the weight and speed of the smallest riders, a single 2” fin provides plenty of tracking without making the board feel too "heavy" or hard to turn. It keeps the setup simple and lightweight so the child can focus on balance.
Is the Shrimp durable enough to be left on the swim platform? +
While it's built with tough Composilite™, we always recommend keeping boards in the racks or in a bag when not in use. However, it is much more resistant to dings and scratches than a high-end carbon fiber board.
Can a child drop the rope on the Phase 5 Shrimp Wakesurfer? +
Absolutely. That is what this board is made for! The wide profile generates a surprising amount of "push," allowing even tiny riders to stay in the wave's pocket without the help of the rope.
What happens when my child hits 100 lbs? +
Once a rider exceeds the weight limit, the board will sit too deep in the water and lose its "push." At that point, it’s time to move them up to the 45" Scamp, which will provide the extra surface area they need to keep progressing.
