Why You’ll Love the Ronix Kid's Sonic Skimmer Wakesurf Board 2026

The Sonic Skimmer is the ultimate gateway for the next generation of shredders. It is the most durable and affordable kid's skimmer in the Ronix lineup, specifically designed to help groms under 80 lbs master their first 360. With a stable thruster setup and a kid-friendly "propeller" fin for added fun, this board takes the frustration out of learning and replaces it with pure progression.

Ideal vs. Wrong Riders

Ronix Kid's Sonic Skimmer Wakesurf Board 2026

The Ideal Rider

Young rippers (up to 80 lbs) who are ready to move past basic surfing and want a lightweight, durable board to start learning technical spins and ollies.

The Wrong Rider

Teens or adults over 85 lbs who will submerge the low-volume core, or absolute beginners who may find a thin-rail skimmer less stable than a surf-style grom board.

The Wakesports Crew Review

We watched the groms take this board out, and the "stoke factor" was through the roof the second they saw the Turbo 3000 fin. While the propeller is mostly a fun visual touch for the kids, the actual performance on the water is what impressed us. Because the board is so thin, the smaller riders were able to "dunk" it under their feet for deep-water starts without the board fighting back like a high-volume surfer. Once they were up, the thruster setup kept them tracking straight and feeling secure, which is huge for building confidence before they try to spin. We saw them sticking 360s much faster because the board doesn't feel "stuck" in the water. Plus, the fact that it's built like a Ronix wakeboard means when they accidentally bang it against the swim platform, it doesn't leave a massive ding. It’s a tough, fast, and fun little ripper.

Product Overview

Spinning groms unite—the 2026 Ronix Kid's Sonic Skimmer is a turbo-propelled technical wakesurfer created for the next generation. This is the most affordable and durable kid’s surfer in the Ronix line, providing the perfect platform for a well-executed 360 for riders up to 80 lbs. Featuring a thruster setup with three fins, this board tracks harder and feels more secure in the water than traditional single-fin skimmers. Ronix built the Sonic with a rugged construction inspired by their best-selling wakeboards, making it stronger than most kid’s surfers and easier to submerge for deep-water starts thanks to its thin profile. This board helps young riders perfect their ollies and session easier rotations, and it even comes with a performance award sticker pack featuring various tricks for any grom’s to-do list. But most importantly, it features a little extra "assistance" from the unique propelled Turbo 3000 fin.

FAQ'S: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the Turbo 3000 "propeller" fin do? +
The Turbo 3000 is a fun, visual feature designed to get kids excited about their gear. While it looks like a propeller, it doesn't provide actual propulsion or change how the board rides—it's all about making the wakesurfer look as fast as it feels.
Why is the Sonic construction better for kids than a standard board? +
Most high-performance boards are fragile, but Ronix built the Sonic using wakeboard-style construction. This makes it significantly more durable and less prone to dings from the boat, docks, or accidental drops.
How does the thin profile help a child learn to surf? +
A thinner board is easier to "dunk" under the water, making the deep-water start much less intimidating for a smaller rider. Once up, it sits lower in the wake, giving them a more stable and connected feeling.
Can my kid ride this board if they weigh more than 80 lbs? +
While a rider slightly over 80 lbs can ride it, they will likely find the board too slow to keep in the wave. For riders over 80 lbs, Ronix recommends stepping up to the Alpha Squad for more volume.
Is the Sonic Skimmer a good board for learning 360s? +
Yes; it is one of the best "trainers" for 360s. The thruster set up provides stability to build confidence. Take out the two side fins, ride as a single fin, to will allow the board to spin effortlessly once the rider initiates the rotation.
