Wakeboard Bindings & Boots FAQ
Q1: Should I choose Open-Toe or Closed-Toe wakeboard boots?
Open-Toe boots are the ultimate choice for families or multiple riders because they accommodate a wide range of foot sizes on a single board. Closed-Toe boots offer a dedicated, high-performance fit with better toe-to-heel response. For a deep dive into which is right for you, check out our blog: Open-Toe vs. Closed-Toe Bindings Guide.
Q2: Will new bindings fit my older wakeboard?
All modern wakeboard bindings are compatible with wakeboards from 2014 and newer. The industry shifted from an 8-inch plate to a 6-inch plate in the 2008-09 season, and then from "Quarter 20" hardware to M6 Metric hardware in the 2013-14 season. Please note: adapter plates for old 8-inch boards are no longer manufactured. If you have any doubt, contact us at 858-277-5757. We have decades of experience and can identify if your board is older than 2013 just by a photo.
Q3: How should my wakeboard bindings fit?
For Open-Toe boots, the dual-lace or BOA® systems make them the best option for comfort while fitting multiple riders. For Closed-Toe boots, the fit should be snug, with your toes just touching the edge. They will open up and mold to your foot after a few uses. Crucial Tip: Your toes should never curl at the front. If they do, the boots are too small and you need to go up a size.
Q4: What are the best wakeboard boots for a cable park?
While any binding technically works, we prefer cable-specific bindings with walkable boot liners like the Utopia Intuition+ Boots. Trust us—your feet will thank you when you have to walk over rocks or hot pavement from the opposite end of the park back to the starting dock. Been there, done that!
Q5: What is Ronix Mainframe 2.0 technology?
Mainframe 2.0 is the latest lightweight chassis from Ronix. It is engineered with a mid-height skeleton that allows the foot to sit closer to the board. This design eliminates excess weight and provides a better connection and board feel, making your movements on the wakeboard instantaneous.
