Why You’ll Love the Phase 5 Phantom Wakesurf Board 2026

The Phase 5 Phantom is the high-performance powerhouse of the surf-style lineup, built specifically for the "power surfer." It’s all about rail-to-rail carving and explosive pop off the lip. Featuring a wide, squared-off tail that provides a massive amount of "push" and surface area, this board accelerates like a rocket and stays rock-solid when you're burying the rail into a bottom turn. If you want an air-boosting weapon that maximizes drive and speed, the Phantom is your choice.

Ideal vs. Wrong Riders

Phase 5 Phantom Wakesurf Board 2026

The Ideal Rider

Intermediate to Advanced wakesurfers who want a fast, aggressive surf-style board that excels at airs and powerful carves or who wants to charge the wake with a lot of speed and isn't afraid to lean into heavy, aggressive carves.

The Wrong Rider

Beginners who need a slow, stable cruiser, or technical skim riders who want a thin board for surface 360s and shuv-its.

The Wakesports Crew Review

We spent several mornings sessioning the 2026 Phase 5 Phantom Wakesurf Board and the first thing we would like to mention was how light this board feels. Usually, a quad-fin surfboard can feel a bit "heavy" in the water, but that 20% weight drop in the construction makes it feel incredibly nimble. It’s great for boosting massive airs; the board just snaps off the lip with zero effort. We loved burying the rail into deep bottom turns way out in the flats, where the quad setup provides tons of grip before allowing you to break the tail loose for huge slashes on the wake. It carries so much speed through the flats that air 360s feel natural and fast. It’s an aggressive, high-energy ride that makes you want to push your limits every time you drop the rope. Highly recommend and a must have board on your boat.

FAQ'S: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the Phase 5 Phantom too advanced for a beginner? +
Not at all. While Parker Payne uses this board to win pro competitions, it’s surprisingly stable for a beginner. The wider tail and parallel rails and wide tail make it stable enough for an intermediate rider to stay in the wave easily. It's a "forever board"—you can learn your first deep-water start on it today and still be boosting airs on it five years from now without ever outgrowing its performance. It’s an investment in your progression.
Is the Phase 5 Phantom a good board for skim-style tricks like shuv-its? +
To be honest, no. The Phantom is a pure surf-style board. Because it has thicker rails and a heavy-duty quad fin setup, it’s built to stay "locked" into the wave. If you are really into skim-style wakesurfing and want to master 360 shuvs and big spins, we would highly recommend looking at a dedicated skim board like the Phase 5 Key Jett Shreds or the Ronix Carbon Air Core Skimmer. Those are skim style boards that are designed for those kinds of tricks; the Phantom is designed for deep carves and huge airs.
Phase 5 Phantom vs. Ronix DNA - Which wakesurfer is best for me? +
Both are high-end surfers, but they handle surface tricks very differently. The Ronix DNA features "flow-through" fins, which are designed to let the board spin more freely during surface 360s. This gives the DNA a slightly more "playful" feel for a surfboard. The Phase 5 Phantom uses a traditional quad setup that focuses on maximum drive and speed. If you want a surfer that can still sneak in some surface spins, the DNA is a great choice. If you want the most "planted" and fast feel for massive airs and deep carves, the Phantom takes the win.
Does having 4 fins make the board slower? +
Actually, more fins equals more traction and more drag, which can technically slow a board down if you aren't using the wave's energy. However, the Quad setup on the Phantom is designed to create "drive"—it helps you generate massive speed by pumping the board. If you find the board feels too "sticky" or slow, you can drop down to 2 fins. Fewer fins usually speed the board up and give it a much "looser" feel, allowing the tail to break free more easily.
Do I need a massive "Pro-Level" boat wave to ride the Phantom? +
Actually, the Phantom is one of the best high-performance boards for smaller wakes. Because it has a wide, squared-off tail and a parallel outline, it creates a lot of "natural push." This helps it stay in the wave longer than a narrow, pintail surfer would. Even if your wave isn't chest-high, the Phantom’s HD PROPEL™ bottom will keep you gliding through the flats with ease.
