Wakeboard Rope & Handle FAQs

We’re experts on wakeboard ropes and handles, and we’re happy to help you make a great decision.

Is There a Difference Between Wakeboard Ropes, Ski Ropes, and Surf Ropes?

For wakeboarding, always use a dedicated wakeboard rope. Unlike ski ropes, wakeboard ropes don’t stretch. A taut line gives you more momentum and helps you avoid losing your balance when landing tricks.

Additionally, surf ropes will not work for wakeboarding as they are much shorter in length, typically ranging between 10 to 25 feet compared to wakeboard ropes which range between 55 to 85 feet.

Wakeboard handles are also wider, usually 13 to 15 inches instead of the 10 to 12-inch width of waterskiing and wakesurfing handles. The wider wakeboard handle gives your hands more room to perform 180s, 360s, and other rotational tricks.

What Is the Best Length for a Wakeboard Rope?

The length of wakeboard ropes affects your travel speed and air time in jumps. For beginners, start with a 65-foot rope. Keep in mind that longer ropes often have removable sections.

People who are comfortable wakeboarding usually choose a 70- to 75-foot rope. Advanced wakeboarders prefer 75- to 85-foot lines, and pros typically use the full 85 feet every time.
